Over the summer of 2016 I attended the NAEA School for Art Leaders. This program was life altering in so many ways and is now coming to a close. My "capstone" is written and all that remains is the creation of my "yearbook" slide - including an artistic self portrait representing who we are as leaders. Oh, and of course, the actual LEADING is still to come!
I decided to explore the idea of a still life as a self portrait once again. This is how I viewed all the birds and rabbits that I painted a few years back and I wanted to explore this idea further. The painting I am working on includes three objects; a rock, a tiny, empty terracotta pot, and my giant, red, hand-made sketchbook that was my bible for the program. The objects symbolically and realistically represent me as a leader - at least in my head! Here's where things stand as of day 1. I'm hopeful for the results, but mostly I'm happy to be painting again.

A friend has these amazing whippets - a breed of dog I truly adore. She posts photos of them set alongside the backdrop of Valley Forge... They are stunning. I have wanted to paint from one of her images for a long time but hadn't found the time or the right image to use. This image really made me happy though, so I gave it a go. I don't think the painting is finished yet but here is a little preview of the progress. Hopefully she doesn't find it here - I'd like to surprise her with it as a gift! i think I've been working on this for almost a year- way too long! But here she is, One Goat and Two Kids.
allenTown I started this piece in August... Then school started and I took my annual break from painting - it's hard to get back into a routine and still find time to paint!
I'll post a picture when it is units final location. Let's all hope the new owners love it. My friend, the goat is on hold. The 16-piece commission that's 2-pieces done is on hold. Why, you ask, is this piece getting my attention while the others must wait? Wellllll, because this piece takes up my entire studio. Completed beachscape for my godfather's 65th birthday gift. Special thanks must be given to Gary Hull for taking the photo of the beach at Nelson Avenue, Long Beach Island, and Ryan Bonanni for taking the amazing photo of the sky during a storm on the island. The combination of the two images made this painting possible. |
Work in ProgressNot everything is completed in one day or in one painting session. This page will track the works that take more time than daily paintings. Archives
