Today I found myself short on motivation for painting. I feel like there are so many more pressing things to do - plan for the college course I will be teaching in a few weeks, plan for the new school year, plan for the activity I will be running at Artworks this Saturday... Who has time to paint with all those "plans" hanging over her head? I wasn't in the mood to paint but forced myself into the studio anyway. I am not dissatisfied with the results, but I'm also not impressed. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day and I have plenty of kachina's left in my brush.

Dear John, You said I should stop being "safe", that I should make a "crazy one" and "really push the composition". You suggested that the kachina should be peeking out from something, hidden, behind another object. I'm not sure this is what you meant, but it sure was fun. Thanks for all the support, buddy! Yours Truly, LD I followed John's rule of 1/4s today... I think. Composition confuses me. I know when I see something I like, but I don't always know why I like it or what it is that works about that composition. Color is so much more clear to me and easy to translate and understand. Many more days to work on figuring this out. My good friend John, who is also an artist, said he feels this composition is the strongest yet. I feel like the painting itself needs a great deal more work - but I was time crunched today as it is my mom's birthday! Happy Birthday, MOM! Also - I promise to use my real camera for all future images because the phone camera, though handy, is pathetic. |
Lora Marie DurrDuring my undergraduate studies, I spent a great deal of time in the painting studio working with traditional oils. Teaching middle school art for the past 12 years has taken me away from those roots. This "one a day" project is aimed at re-inspiring that creativity and technique. Archives
